It all started many years ago with my Sindy dolls (like Barbie but English!).  I would cut up scraps of fabric to make clothes for them, I know some curtains were involved (I am sorry Mum, love you!) I was 14 when my mum bought my first sewing machine. Many funky skirts were swiftly created on a Friday evening in time for the school disco. I started to design and make clothes for myself, family and friends.

Due to increased commissions I became a professional dressmaker. Feedback from clients was that they looked great in the clothes and they wanted more. The realisation was that it wasn't the workmanship or the design that was the dealbreaker, it was that the item really suited them. My designs highlighted their best features and disguised, frankly, whatever needed to be disguised. I didn't like making clothes for people I had never met but, once I had seen them, I knew what would suit them best. There would be someone who would approach me with a design idea, a discussion would take place and I would tell them how they should work with their shape and we would work from there. It became clear that designing and creating clothes was just a means to the end product; styling was my thing.

Moving to the next chapter; love, kids (Rae and James, my two angels' middle names), life and growing up all took place.  Increasingly I was being asked to go shopping with friends and family and even friends of friends! My eye for detail and accessories was fine tuned.  No one wanted to make a fashion decision without discussing it with me first - late night calls, frantic text messages, picture messages from changing rooms, I have seen it all.  I qualified as slimming consultant and really got to grips with empowering people and making them feel better about themselves.

Rae James was created early 2006.  My mission is to help you give a confidence boost and support to those of us who need some help.  I want you to be able to look in the mirror and like what you see, to look in your wardrobe and feel inspired.  You don't have to have a perfect body to look great, we are all entitled to feel good about ourselves no matter what.

Hopefully you will see what we can do to help you make that change.
